Marti

There are several French makers of quality clocks and often the difference between makers is hard to tell as often the blancs roulants used were produced by factories using the same methods.

One of the famous names is that of the Marti family and clocks by various members of the family took medals at exhibitions as follows:
Marti et Cie : Medaillie de bronze 1860-1869
Marti et Cie : Medaillie de Argent 1889-1900
S. Marti : Medaille d'Or 1900-1931
according to Shenton, there may be some doubt as to when Marti ceased making movements

Another clockmaker has passed on to me an item quoted in "The best of J E Coleman- Clockmaker", (1979). Answering an enquiry it appears that a letter was sent by R Marti, then head of the firm Establissments S Marti of 22 Rue General Leclarc, Montebeliard, France. M Marti stated that movements marked "S Marti et Cie, Medaille de Bronze" were made from 1867 to 1869
