As well as many other devices still in common use, Robert Mann Lowne was the inventor of a successful master clock patented in 1901.
Lowne Electric Clock Co in 1903 installed a large system at the Royal Arsenal.
The company was successful and prospered.
After the death of Robert Mann Lowne in 1924 the firm was directed by his sons Robert and Benjamin. The last Lowne master clock installation was in 1933.
Frederick Robert Mann Lowne, grandson of Robert Mann Lowne, took out a patent in 1933 relating to synchronous motor improvements.
The company ceased to make clocks and changed its name to Lowne Instruments in 1960
