He invented a clock with a large radial drum and, with the assistance of his brother John in the USA, this was placed on the market in 1892.
This clock put the entries in the numerical order of the employee, not chronological order, and this reduced the work in abstracting an individual's timesheet. (Bundy clocks, at that time, put the entries in chronological order)
The brothers formed a partnership known as the Dey patents Co. (though there is no evidence that it was incorporated). By 1901 the name had changed to the Dey Time Register Co. and this company was incorporated in 1904 The Dey clocks were marketed in the UK from 1896 by the Howard Brothers who founded "Dey Time Register Limited" in 1908.
Howard Bros were in turn absorbed into the International Time Recording Co Limited.(ITR Co. Ltd) in about 1928.
