19" rack mounting unit with separate power supplyMovement:
Size: 8.75 inches high, 19 inches wide and 7.5 inches deep (ex handles).
A box of electronics, basically a carefully controlled quartz crystal oscillator with substantial components and a proper regard for conventional electronic circuitry. This is from the days when a quartz crystal clock was state of the art and very expensive. Included is a 4.5 inch pilot dial and buttons to advance or retard the clocks on the circuit.Notes:
The connection diagram for this unit (a blueprint of not very good quality) is dated 1972 with modifications noted to 1975. The "manual" (6 sheets of A4) is dated 1980. In those days quartz was taken seriously enough to have a crystal serial number (B0214) as well as a unit serial number (387)The unit runs from a 24 volt supply provided by a separate power unit which is 19" x 4.4" x 8.5" and is marked Chloride Gent model 5208 charger. As the name suggests it contained a 24 volt battery (presumably a sealed lead acid type) trickle charged from the mains. The unit will run the C17 master unit direct from the mains.
Historical note:
The Gent company was sold to the Chloride group in 1975 and adopted the name of Chloride Gent. The Chloride Gent Company sold the Gent interest again 1983, this time to the firm M.K.Electric who adopted the name Gent Limited. This firm was in turn integrated into the Pillar Electrical PLC in 1988.(Historical information from an article by Gijs Veraart)
