Seth Thomas Large Rosewood Wall Clock
Ref No: 32
Case: Rosewood veneered case with gilt columns and two reverse-painted pictures to the glass of the doors
Size: 32.25 inches high.
Movement: Makers clock paper states that this is an eight day brass clock. It is weight driven with a open centre painted dial and black steel hands. Strike is on a wire gong.
Notes: An imposing clock by a renowned American manufacturer. Makers paper stuck to the inside of the case has every appearance of being original.
I think it dates from just before 1866 as the name of the town is given as Plymouth Hollow (changed to Thomaston in 1866) Earliest possible date is 1863 when Seth Thomas first made this type of clock. OCB gives information about Seth and has a picture of Seth and
pictures of a clock very similar indeed to mine. M has pictures of an almost identical clock and suggests a date of c1860.
