Movement: Electric battery driven mechanism, made to P.O. specifications by Messrs Gents of Leicester. Has metal pendulum rod believed to be Invar and heavy bob.
Notes: The type 36 is an attractive master clock, possibly the best known of the Post Office Master Clocks and gave reliable service in exchanges until ousted by Quartz timers during the 1980s. The clock does not use Gents own "Pulsynetic" system, but has the characteristics of a Magneta clock and uses the Hipp toggle method of impulsing the pendulum. A big advantage is that the clock is very quiet and does not have the noisy "clonk" that the Pulsynetic gives as its gravity arm is reset.
This clock was made at a time (1975) when Gents were permitted to use their own case style, and has the unusual feature that a slave dial is fitted in the case. I understand that this was intended for smaller exchanges, or where the clock was in view of the public.
Provides pulses at 1 sec, 6 seconds and 30 seconds for exchange equipment.
