Large Railway Station Clock
Ref No: 168
Comment:This fascinating image sent to me.
The owner, in Australia, says
"Under piles of furniture and other stuff in a Melbourne antique shop, I
found and bought a large railway station clock.
It's black rectangular, 3ft plus wide, weighs about 40kg(!). It is labelled Gensign.
The actual face behind a heavy glass and metal door, is made
from a huge slab of cast aluminium, behind which are bolted the
workings, which are spring loaded carousels of metal numbers. (Mains
powered, British electric bits).
It works perfectly (albeit with startlingly loud buzzing of solenoids
and whirring of metal number racks) and is my all time favourite object."
How on earth did this get to Australia? It is clearly from Kings Cross station in the UK (I recognise the logo) and the actual manufacturer, discovered later, is Solari, an Italian company still in business
