Large T & N Slave dial for master clock
Ref No: 157
Case: circular, heavy plastic, marked with TN in lozenge
Size: 12" diameter dial with very bold markings and search hand. I originally thought this was a seconds seep hand but I have received an interesting email from Peter Frederiksen of Denmark who tells me that:
the
red hand on the dial is not a second hand, but a search hand.
On these old TN clocks with search hand, the hand is placed closest
to the dial. This contrasts with a normal seconds hand which is almost always furthest from the dial.
The purpose of the search hand was to signal to management staff. Managing staff in a
company all had a hand position. If someone needed them at their
desk, the switching board send a signal to the clocks, advancing the
search hand to the wanted position (e.g. 3?). The search
hand has nothing to do with the clock system and operates on a
different pair of wires.
Movement: Contains two separate polarised drive units, one for the clock and one for the sweep hand
Notes: Normally used in parallel with T & N Master clock.
