"Memory Master" Master Clock by ECS

Ref No: 113

Case:
Simple style of hardwood case with glazed front
Size: 16 inches high. 9. inches wide, 5 inches deep. Has 6.5 inch dial.
Movement:
This clock has a half seconds compensated pendulum, dead beat escapement and spring drive. It has a synchronous motor to rewind the spring each minute. If power fails the spring has sufficient reserve to run the master clock for about 10 hours. On restoration of the supply the synchronous motor will rewind the spring. No batteries or charger are needed for continuous operation.

Notes:

These clocks were made by Smiths English Clock Systems in co-operation with Gents of Leicester. Gents marketed the same design clock as the Chronopher. It took the Industrial Design award in 1964.

The clock as designed had two mercury switches arranged to give one minute alternate polarity impulses to slave dials. After a power failure a mechanical memory store will transmit pulses to the slave dials until they are synchronised with the master clock. The switches and switch holders have been removed from this particular clock though the mechanism is there to work them. It makes a fine compact wall clock of distinctive style and with the advantage of a remontoire system (clock does not stop unless there is a very long power cut and timekeeping is better as the spring is maintained at a constant power)
